Recall Dangerous Gastrointestinal Bacteria Lidl Recalls Spreads

Discounter Lidl has announced a recall for various types of cheese spreads. Bacteria have been found in the product that can cause severe gastrointestinal disease in some people.
Listeria in cheese spreads
As the supermarket chain Lidl reports on its website, informs the Dutch manufacturer Smaak & Co B.V. about a recall of different varieties of the product "My cheese dairy spread, 175 g". According to the information, "My cheese dairy spread tomato-basil, 175 g" Listeria monocytogenes was detected in the product. These bacteria can have serious health consequences.

Recall regardless of the best before date
Affected by the recall are "My cheese dairy spread pineapple peach, 175 g", "My cheese dairy spread chives, 175 g" and "My cheese dairy spread tomato-basil, 175 g".
All mentioned varieties of the article are recalled regardless of the best before date. The products were available in Lidl stores in the federal states of Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia, Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. The company has removed the product concerned from the sale.
The products can be returned in all Lidl branches - even without presentation of the receipt.
Severe gastrointestinal disorders
Listeria are bacteria that are found almost everywhere in the environment and are normally safe for healthy adults.
The pathogens can also cause severe gastrointestinal diseases and symptoms similar to a flu infection. This leads to symptoms such as nausea, muscle pain, diarrhea and fever.
"Certain groups of people may experience very serious illnesses," the company writes. Pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and those with weak immune systems need to be extra careful.
With them, the bacteria could sometimes be life-threatening. Last summer several deaths by Listeria had been reported.
"Because of this health risk, consumers should absolutely pay attention to the recall and not consume the product," says the current release. (Ad)
