Recall at Lidl: Salmonella discovered in organic eggs

Salmonella has been discovered in organic eggs sold at food discounter Lidl. These bacteria can be the cause of severe gastrointestinal disease. Certain batches of the product will now be recalled.

Salmonella detected in eggs

As the supermarket chain Lidl writes in a customer information, calls the Eifrisch-Marketing GmbH & Co. KG the product "organic eggs [Gr. M, L, XL], pack of 10 "of the farm" Organic Farm Eierhof Papenburg GbR "with the print number 0-DE-0359721 (see imprint on the egg) and the best before dates 09.08.2018, 15.08.2018 and 20.08.2018 ( see sticker on the packaging). "Salmonella Enteritidis has been detected in self-examination," the statement says. These bacteria can cause diarrhea and other health problems.

Sold by Lidl in three federal states

According to the information, the product concerned was sold at Lidl Germany in the states of Hesse, North Rhine-Westphalia and Rhineland-Palatinate.

The company reacted immediately and removed the affected eggs from the sale. The goods can be returned in all Lidl branches. The purchase price will also be refunded without presentation of the receipt.

Other eggs sold at Lidl Deutschland are not affected by the recall.

Bacteria can cause dangerous stomach bowel disease

"Salmonella can be a trigger for severe stomach / intestinal diseases (salmonellosis)," reads the customer information.

"Because of this health risk, customers should be mindful of the recall and not consume the affected product."

The disease occurs several hours to days after infection and manifests itself mainly by sudden onset of diarrhea, abdominal pain, malaise, feeling cold and headache.

In some cases, vomiting and mild fever are added.

The symptoms usually disappear after a few hours or days.

However, for infants, young children, the elderly, and those with compromised immune systems, fluid loss due to diarrhea and vomiting can be dangerous. (Ad)
