Consumption is not recommended

"We advise against consumption of this product as a precaution," writes the manufacturer in a message.

According to the information, the oil was sold in markets of the retail chain Rewe in Baden-Württemberg, Bavaria, Lower Saxony and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The product concerned can be returned in the respective market. The purchase price will be refunded.

Harmful substances

"Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs) are carcinogenic, can alter the genome and have reproductive properties," writes the Federal Environment Agency on its website.

The Federal Institute for Risk Assessment (BfR) also points out that PAHs have "harmful properties".

Again and again, PAH are found in food. For example, Schneekoppe GmbH had to recall linseed oil last year after it had been found to have increased PAH levels. (Ad)
