Bacteria: Salmon smokehouse recalls fish products
The company SER in the Rhineland-Palatinate Müsch has recalled two of its salmon products. Reason for this is a proven burden with Listeria, so the press release of the smokehouse. These bacteria can also multiply at refrigerator temperatures and lead to serious health damage in certain high-risk populations. Consumers who still have the affected salmon at home should therefore not consume it, but return it to the dealer or dispose of it with household waste.

Two products contaminated with germs
The salmon smokehouse SER is currently warning against the consumption of certain fish products. The reason: The Landesuntersuchungsamt Rheinland-Pfalz (LUA) had detected harmful bacteria in several fish products. As a result, the company responded promptly, "for reasons of preventive consumer protection", with a recall of the products from the retail sector as well as with the end user.

According to this, the "Eifel smoked salmon" (smoked salmon) with the consumption date 10.07.2016 (direct sales) and 13.07.2016 as well as Graved salmon with the consumption date 08.07.2016 (direct sales) and 12.07.2016 are affected. Consumers should not consume these products because of possible exposure, but should return them to retailers where they were purchased or dispose of them with household waste. The traders involved are informed about the recall and the warning, the message says.

Do not consume affected products!
The detected bacteria are Listeria (Listeria monocytogenes), which can cause a so-called "listeriosis" in humans. This can cause flu-like symptoms such as vomiting, muscle aches, diarrhea and fever, but usually takes a harmless course in healthy adults. However, for pregnant women, newborns, the elderly and those with weak immune defenses, the disease may be dangerous and may be harmful, e.g. lead to blood poisoning, brain or meningitis. In pregnant women, the risk of premature birth or miscarriage increases. Customers who notice such disease symptoms after eating the affected fish, are therefore urged to contact a doctor and have the complaints cleared up.

The reports about evidence of Listeria pile up: Only a few days ago, the district office Fürstenfeldbruck had issued a warning against the consumption of meat products of the Hofmetzgerei Braumiller in Biburg. The company had discovered a listeria contamination in Vienna's sausages and cooked ham during quality controls. A few weeks earlier, the meanwhile insolvent Geretsrieder butcher "Sieber" had initiated a nationwide recall due to infectious bacteria. (No)
