Found mold poison

"As part of an inspection, the mold fungus ochratoxin was detected in a single sample of this product," writes the wholesaler.

The portal "lebensmittelwarnung.de" of the federal states and the Federal Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety reports a "exceeding of the maximum level for ochratoxin A".

The company points out that the above batch should no longer be used. Other articles and other best before dates are not affected.

Customers who have purchased the corresponding product from Penny can return it for a refund of the purchase price without presenting the receipt.

Carcinogenic and mutagenic

"Ochratoxin A is classified as carcinogenic and mutagenic," explains the Bavarian State Office for Health and Food Safety (LGL) on its website.

"In addition, it is a neurotoxin, has a harmful effect on fertility and attacks the immune system. The main target organ is the kidney, "it continues.

According to LGL, the International Agency for Research in Cancer (IARC) has classified ochratoxin A as potentially carcinogenic to humans.

According to the experts, at least one animal species (mice and rats) proved to be responsible for the development of cancer. (Ad)
