In Paderborn, a doctor is on trial for administering cortisone to hundreds of patients without her knowledge. Children and adolescents should also be among those affected. Many suffered physical disabilities. The accused denies the allegations.
Funds from conventional medicine instead of naturopathy
The patients wanted funds from naturopathy, but got a drug from conventional medicine. Since Friday, the District Court of Paderborn has been dealing with a doctor who is said to have treated more than 500 patients - including children and adolescents - with cortisone in almost 1,800 cases without their knowledge. As it says in a message from the news agency dpa, the prosecutor of the 45-year-old from Paderborn accuses in the process dangerous bodily injury. Due to the side effects of cortisone, the drug has long been controversial among experts.
Around 200 patients suffered physical disabilities
It is said that almost 200 patients have suffered physical impairments due to cortisone treatment, such as growth disorders and osteoporosis. Already in 2012, the prosecution had reported that it had come in at least 190 patients to side effects such as bone loss and hair loss. According to data from that time, in the boom of pollen allergy and hay fever in the hallway, the patient had even queued to the doctor, who had made a name for herself with her alleged homeopathic treatment of allergies, to get a soothing syringe.
Treatment of allergies and atopic dermatitis
Since the doctor is said to have cortisone-containing syringes accounted for as homeopathic substances, the prosecution also lists 830 cases of commercial fraud. The defendant admitted the treatment on the first day of the trial, but stated that he did not know that the drug used contained cortisone. Overall, the doctor, whose license to practice for several years, has earned 34,000 euros with the syringes. The public prosecutor's office came in the course of their several years of investigation on the number of 522 patients who had their allergies or atopic dermatitis diseases by the doctor with the help of a supposed self-herbal therapy had to be treated.
