Per day 330 winter sportsmen in clinics
Every day, 330 winter athletes are admitted to Austria's clinics
04/12/2014
The excursion to the slopes for 330 winter athletes in the hospital ends each day. This informs the Kuratorium for traffic safety (KFV) opposite the news agency „dpa“ With. According to this, Austria's clinics are targeting up to 65,000 injured winter sports accidents in the coming season, including around 40,000 skiers and around 10,000 snowboarders.
Most winter sports accidents are due to a lack of fitness
As the KFV experts report, lack of fitness is the reason for the accidents. To prevent twisted knees, torn ligaments and broken bones, hobby winter athletes should start training early. Professor Dirk Siebert, sports scientist and expert in winter sports at the University of Leipzig, recommends strength exercises on equipment and flexibility training with stretching exercises. Ideally, winter sports enthusiasts will be fit all year round, but at the latest they should start training three months before skiing.
On Austrian slopes, between 30 and 40 people die each year. In two of the cases, collisions, falls or impact on obstacles cause death, as reported by the KFV. Every third death is due to a cardiovascular disorder. (Ag)
