Pollen Flight Leidenszeit for allergy begins Birch pollen are approaching
Meteorologists and health experts have no good news for allergy sufferers who respond to birch pollen. The burden is expected to be very strong this year. In some regions the birch pollen has already started.
Now it says: handkerchiefs out
A few months ago, experts had previously said that birch pollen levels are expected to be extreme this year. Now the birch pollen has started. In Berlin it says now: handkerchiefs out. The news agency dpa reports that the concentration has increased rapidly in the past week, from initially only a dozen pollen per cubic meter of air at the beginning of the week to 700 to 800 midweek. "The season is in full swing," said the meteorologist Thomas Dümmel based on measured data from the Free University of Berlin.
Allergy sufferers respond to pollen
According to the Robert Koch Institute (RKI), hay fever is one of the most common allergic diseases. If the pollen of trees, shrubs, grasses, cereals and herbs touch the mucous membranes of those affected, allergic reactions are triggered. These include watery and itchy eyes, sneezing, a runny or stuffy nose, shortness of breath and even bronchial asthma. In addition, the skin may react and headaches and sleep disorders may occur.
Further increase is imminent
The foundation Deutscher Polleninformationsdienst (PID) had already predicted a moderate to high exposure for this weekend. On the website of the German Weather Service (DWD), the expected pollen concentrations in the air are displayed in cooperation with the PID. A further increase in the values is imminent, said Dümmel according to dpa. According to his observations, depending on the location of the sun, it depends on whether birch trees have already released pollen. It is said that the duration of suffering for birch pollen allergy sufferers is three, four weeks at the most. For some allergic people, there is also consolation: pollen of the early flowering hazel and alder are meanwhile in only so small number on the way that they should not be noticeable. (Ad)
