PKV 20 percent more full insurance
Private health insurance: 20 percent more full health insurance coverage
11/18/2011
The Association of Private Health Insurance (PKV) has presented the business figures for the year 2010 and the first forecasts for the year 2011. It becomes clear that the health care reform adopted in favor of private health insurance has made a significant increase in the industry. Already in the first half of 2011, around 54,000 private full insurance policies were concluded. That's a plus of a good 20 percent. Above all, high earners, who were previously insured in the statutory health insurance, have made a change due to the facilitated conditions.
In the course of the health reform of the black-yellow coalition, the 3-year waiting period for employees was abolished at the urging of the FDP. This has a clear according to the Association of Private Health insurers „Revival of new business“ guided. Around 54,000 people signed a private health insurance contract in the first half of 2011. This means that new business is more than 20 percent stronger than in the first half of 2010 (44,500 new insured persons). The number of private insured persons in Germany has increased to about 8.95 million people. In addition to the new customer business, more supplementary insurance was sold. At around 119,000, this figure was also significantly higher than in the same period of the previous year (2010: 77,000). Although the private health insurance had urged that statutory health insurance may offer no additional insurance, but the FDP could not prevail over the Union on this point.
What constitutes a strength for the private insurance industry is a significant weakening for the legal sector. After all, it is above all very well-earning employees who have been able to switch to private health insurance since 2011 much more easily than before. With the abolition of the three-year period, insured persons no longer have to earn a minimum gross amount (compulsory limit) on three different cut-off dates, but can switch to PKV at the first skip. In this way, the health insurance companies lose valuable contributors, the principle of solidarity is endangered. A change should still be well considered, since a return to the legal after a change forever denied.
Premium income from the private health and long-term care insurance increased by 5.7 per cent to € 33.27 billion in 2010. Health insurance accounted for € 31.17bn (+ 6.1%) and long-term care insurance for € 2.10bn (+ 1.1%). For 2011, premium income of € 34.90 billion is expected: € 32.76 billion for health care and € 2.14 billion for long-term care insurance. Reason for this are also the contribution increases with the private health insurance. (Sb)
