ENT Doctors: Piercings belong in medical hands

Experts from HNOnet-NRW, a consortium of established ENT doctors, point out that piercings in this field are best in the ENT specialists.

ENT specialists always pierce under sterile conditions and with standardized instruments. Beforehand, they disinfect the marked area and remove any disturbing hair. „Due to precise knowledge of anatomical structures and the sterile procedure, complications are extremely rare“, explains Dr. Uso Walter, chairman of the medical network "HNOnet NRW". „Nevertheless, if it ever comes to infections or tears of the skin, ENT doctors treat it quickly and safely.“ ENT specialists undergo many years of training, bringing with them the necessary specialist knowledge and qualifications and not just learning from watching. They regularly monitor the healing process, which lasts between four weeks and one year. Not only for complications after Piercingstechen a visit to the ENT specialist is therefore advisable.
