Pasha therapy for herniated discs
Clinic Blankenstein patients benefit from „Pasha therapy“
27/11/2013
Patients with severe pain in the spine can offer the Blankenstein Clinic in Hattingen a new therapy. In the anesthesia department of chief physician Dr. med. Dirk Neveling uses a multifunction electrode („Pasha electrode“) in the centre. Since this method is only mastered in very few centers, the Pain Clinic of the Blankenstein Clinic enjoys a great demand from patients from almost all parts of the country.
More and more people with radiating pain, especially in the cervical or lumbar region as well as herniated discs or scarring after intervertebral disc surgery turn because of the good results of this minimally invasive therapy specifically to the pain experts of the clinic Blankenstein. Most patients have come a long way with a desperate search for help. In an average of four out of five cases, Dr. med. Dirk Neveling and his team help quickly and gently: „Even after a long period of chronic suffering, we can usually help to alleviate the pain noticeably for a whole year. Another effect: Our patients can often discontinue or greatly reduce their medication, which also greatly reduces the arduous side effects.“
The clinic Blankenstein senior physician Michael Jokiel, who specializes in this procedure, explains the procedure: „The procedure performed in sterile operating rooms takes place in prone position under local anesthesia. The electrode is advanced under view by gentle fluoroscopy in the spinal cord to the nerve segments from which the pain emanates. At the root of the evil, the affected nerves are treated once with a pulsed high-frequency current (a type of magnetic field therapy). In contrast to other pain therapies such as denervation, no nerve structures destroyed. Mostly, the current treatment takes place in several segments of the spine. Afterwards, the well-padded electrode can remain lying for another day or two in order to continuously administer analgesic medication. After gently removing the catheter, the patient is monitored for one to two days.“
The four-day hospital stay, the vast majority of patients in the face of the rapid onset of relief gladly accepted. The fear prevailing before the intervention, many say afterwards, is completely unfounded. On the fourth day, many patients go home with far less pain. In a small part, the beneficial effect starts one week to three weeks after the procedure. If the success continues, the Clinic Blankenstein will offer the „Pasha therapy“ expand. (Pm)
