The EU's objective is to reduce the use of antibiotics in livestock, to increase the availability of medicines for animals and to contribute to food safety. Their problem is their plan that animals in the future may only be approved or registered as veterinary drugs. These would have to be approved or registered for each species. That would put the manufacturers of complementary medical veterinary medicines in greatest distress because you could not afford the necessary costs.

The draft also foresees that each Member State will be able to prescribe all medicines for use in food-producing animals in the future. Tierheilpraktiker could handle it no more livestock.

The German veterinary practitioner associations have prepared an online petition in which they ask the federal government not to agree to the draft in its current version. This petition can be found here. It will require 50,000 signatures. Make until 24.02. with and inform your colleagues. (Pm)
