Grandma and Mama at the same time: Greek gives birth to own grandchild
A 67-year-old Greek woman has delivered the baby to her daughter. Although the doctors initially had concerns about their age, a court finally gave the green light. According to her own statements, she feels "more like a grandmother".

At age 67, gave birth to a child
The average age of mothers continues to rise. However, cases of women over the age of 60 who are having a baby are still the big exception. A Greek woman is one of those big exceptions. However, her case is doubly unusual: she not only gave birth to a baby at the age of 67; the child is also her grandchild at the same time.

The own grandchild discharged
According to news agency AFP, 67-year-old Anastassia Ontou from Greece has done a very special job for her daughter. As a surrogate she wore her own grandchild.

The leader of the medical team, Konstantinos Pantos, said to the state television station ERT that the 1.2-kilogram girl was taken last Tuesday after seven and a half months by caesarean section.

"Feel more like a grandmother"
Ontou told private television channel Star that her decision was easy. "My daughter was devastated because she could not carry the child herself."

According to a report by the British Daily Mail, she declared her 43-year-old daughter Konstantina, who had seven failed pregnancy attempts, to be "crazy" when she offered to deliver the child. "We have cried like never before in all these years," said Konstantina.

But the 67-year-old, who lives in a village near Larissa in central Greece, had little trouble during her pregnancy, according to her own statements. According to the British newspaper, after the birth she said, "I feel more like a grandmother than a mother."

Court gave the green light
According to international records, Ontou is now the world's oldest grandmother, having a child for medical reasons, said Pantos.

It is said that the Head of the Fertility Clinic in Athens is initially concerned about the age of the grandmother, but a court in Larissa finally gave the green light.

According to health experts, the risk of cardiovascular disease increases with the age of the mother. For example, mothers over the age of 40 have a high risk of stroke, scientists from the US reported. In addition, the risk of miscarriage and premature births is increasing. (Ad)
