Young woman dies of brain tumor the day before her wedding
A young Briton died just one day before her wedding day. Anna Swabey was 25 years old. The young woman has been aware of her brain tumor for some time and told the public about her illness on a blog. But not because she wanted to be compassionate: she collected tens of thousands of euros for her research on the tumor.

Brain tumors can hit anyone
Brain tumors can affect anyone, "because there are no risk factors that favor the tumor," says a statement from the University Hospital Freiburg. According to the experts, more than 8,000 people in Germany suffer from a primary brain tumor every year. However, thanks to modern treatment methods, physicians can often help today. But not all patients. Not even a young Brit. She died of a brain tumor when she was only 25 years old - one day before her wedding day.

Struggling with all your might against the cancer
Possible signs of a brain tumor include severe headache, nausea, speech and vision disorders, but also epileptic seizures. With the diagnosis come to the physical symptoms often fears of those affected.

Not so in the case of Briton Anna Swabey, who received the devastating diagnosis in February 2015 that a malignant tumor is spreading in her head. She was told by the doctors that she only had a maximum of three years to live. But despite the severe illness, she continued to forge plans for the future and did not give up hope. She wanted to fight with all her might against the cancer.

The young patient intended to marry her friend Andy Bell, whom she met through a dating app. But the day that Anna Swabey had been looking forward to for months was not over. Last Friday she died - just one day before the wedding date.

Tens of thousands of donations collected
After her diagnosis, Swabey had started a blog sharing people's fate and collecting donations for cancer research. Under the title "Inside my head," the young woman described how she dealt with the brain tumor she called "Trev.".

According to media reports, more than 80,000 euros in donations have been collected to date. In a British Independent article, Wendy Fulcher of Brain Tumor Research said Miss Swabey "never shied away from reality" and "selflessly gave her time" to raise awareness about brain tumors.

Cruelest of all cancers
Shortly after the diagnosis of a grade three anaplastic astrocytoma, Swabey fiercely wrote, "I will grow old, I will marry, and I will have children." The disease prevented this, however.

"Another young person has succumbed to a brain tumor, the most crippling and cruel of all cancers, killing more children and adults under the age of 40 than any other," says Fulcher. On the Facebook page "braintumourblog", the family publicly takes leave of Anna. It says, "We are so proud of her courage, her spirit, and the determination she displayed during her illness." (Ad)
