Hotel guests suffering from norovirus: Baltic Hotel vacated
24/10/2013
In Kühlungsborn on the Baltic Sea a hotel had to be shut down after a massive outbreak of Norovirus. Within two weeks more than 300 employees and hotel guests became infected with the virus. As a precaution, the hotel management had closed the house until next Sunday, to perform a complete disinfection. It is assumed that a guest had already arrived with the disease. To avoid worse, some people were taken to a hospital.
Strong feeling of illness
Characteristic of the gastrointestinal disease is vomiting and severe diarrhea. An infection with the pathogen causes a huge fluid loss. This sometimes leads to fluctuations in the electrolyte balance. Especially in older people and children, the disease can have significant consequences. In addition to diarrhea sufferers complain about a strong feeling of illness. Nausea, headache and fatigue are most often seen. Within a short time, the pathogen spreads in the body and can last up to 70 hours.
Hygiene helps effectively
One can protect one by basic hygiene measures, because only if the virus the supply is cut off, a transmission can be prevented. Particular attention should be paid to cleanliness in community facilities. Especially after the toilet is hand washing with disinfectants to duty. It is helpful if people who are already ill stay in bed during the disease phase and limit their contact with other people. (Fr)
