Norovirus spreads quickly - This is the best protection against gastrointestinal infection
Only a few days ago, an unusually high prevalence of norovirus infections in Lower Saxony had been reported. Now there are similar messages from the south of the republic. In Munich, a rapid increase in cases of diarrheal cases was registered. The city has now issued a warning and tips on how to protect yourself.
Noroviruses are extremely contagious
Noroviruses are easily transmitted and therefore responsible for much of the non-bacterial gastrointestinal infections in children and adults. Infected people suffer from discomfort such as abdominal pain, diarrhea, nausea and vomiting. The main season of the pathogens is in the winter months. Therefore, it is not surprising that currently more frequently reported cases of illness. In Bavaria, the Norovirussaíson has started this year a little earlier than usual.
Rapid increase of vomiting diarrhea
Particularly affected is the state capital of Munich. "The Department of Health and Environment (RGU) registered a rapid increase in reports of diarrheal diarrhea in November," it said in a statement. "So far, more than 50 outbreaks attributed to the Noro virus have been recorded - mostly in community facilities."
The city has therefore issued a special warning and asked the doctors "to inform patients in detail about necessary protective measures and to observe the self-protection".
Also contagious after the symptoms have resolved
A spokeswoman for the Ministry of Health said, according to a message from the news agency dpa: "A forecast of how the season develops, however, is not possible."
The symptoms of vomiting are already over after one to three days, but those affected are still contagious for up to 48 hours.
The virus is easily transmitted. In order to prevent infection with the dangerous Noroviruses, the following applies: "Hygiene is the be all and end all," said Health Minister Melanie Huml (CSU). "There are no medicines to treat the virus infection. If necessary, medical advice should always be sought, "said the doctor, according to dpa. Infections must be reported to the health department.
Protection against infections
The top priority for protecting yourself from infections is washing your hands: "This applies both to patients who do not spread the virus and to everyone else so they do not get infected," writes the RGU. Especially with towels and in the toilet is to pay particular attention to hygiene.
The paper also points out that sick people avoid crowds, stay at home and cure the illness. It is also very important to drink a lot to compensate for the loss of fluid during vomiting diarrhea.
Lemon juice is also a protection against infections. This works well against noroviruses, reported the German Cancer Research Center (DKFZ). (Ad)
