Not a few cereal mistakes can also make us fat
For many Germans, the day starts with a delicious muesli. The mix of cereal, fruit and milk is considered healthy and should also help to keep the figure in shape. But all too often, the popular breakfast makes some mistakes that can make you fat. But it's easy to avoid them.
Healthy start to the day
Research shows that more and more Germans eat healthier. It's best to start with the first meal of the day. Many German citizens come in the morning a delicious cereal on the breakfast table. However, some make mistakes: The mix of cereal flakes, fruits and milk can easily make you fat in case of wrong composition. So if you do not want to gain weight in the morning, you should pay a lot of attention.
Lots of sugar in ready mixes
If you do not prepare your own mix, but buy the muesli packaged, it should be noted that many foods contain hidden sugars.
Some breakfast cereals are even true sugar bombs, as the Stiftung Warentest found in investigations.
And many ready-to-eat breakfast mixes often contain too much sugar.
If you do not have enough time in the morning to prepare your own cereal, you should make sure that neither sugar nor additives such as chocolate, popcorn or other sweets are included in the purchase of finished products.
Do not turn the cereal into a sweet
The sweetness - in the self-prepared cereal - is guaranteed anyway by the fruit. Varieties such as apricots or bananas provide for the fast energy boost in the morning. But beware: never exaggerate with the amount, the fruit sugar contained in the fruit can make you fat.
In addition to fresh fruits, the muesli also offers sweet dried fruits. These are high in calories but extremely healthy.
According to the consumer service Bavaria, the contained vitamin C is indeed destroyed during the drying process "to a large extent, but other vitamins and especially the minerals are retained".
In dried fruit therefore very high concentrations of minerals, trace elements and fiber are found.
So that the breakfast does not become a calorie trap, not too much of the dry fruit should be added to the cereal.
However, if the muesli is not sweet enough despite its fruits, at least be sure to sweeten its breakfast with remedies that are healthier than sugar.
The most widely used natural sweetener is probably honey. Although this has fewer calories than conventional table sugar, but should also be used only in small quantities - the cereal is not supposed to be a sweet.
Not only carbs fill you up
The most important part of the cereal is the cereal flakes. Oats, barley, spelled and co. Ideally, the flakes should be whole grains. These provide especially valuable minerals such as zinc, iron, magnesium, phosphorus or potassium.
In addition, they are full of important fiber. The healthy fibers help to stimulate digestion and prevent constipation.
However, people who want to pay attention to their figure, should not use too much grain in their cereal. But there are also satisfying foods with little or no carbohydrates.
So you can, among other almonds, hazelnuts or walnuts, linseed or chia seeds, amaranth or quinoa in the breakfast cereal give.
Do not forget proteins
What is often overlooked in the cereal is how important protein is. A high-protein diet helps to maintain or reduce your weight as it lasts longer and reduces calorie intake.
A great base for a protein muesli is a mix of oat and soy flakes. The former also have the advantage that they can lower unfavorable blood lipids.
Chashew kernels and hazelnuts also contain unsaturated fatty acids and vegetable protein. Adding cinnamon to the mixture gives you a low-carb muesli with a fat burner spice in the bowl.
The spice tastes slightly sweet and stimulates the metabolism, which is why some people give cinnamon in their coffee, as this mix should help you lose weight. (Ad)
