26 women in fertility clinic may be fertilized with wrong sperm
In a fertility clinic in the Netherlands, several women may have been fertilized with wrong sperm. A "procedural error" could have led to the fact that some mothers carry out so-called "cuckoo children".

Procedural error in fertility clinic
A few months ago, Belgian scientists discovered in a study that apparently fewer cuckoo children exist than previously thought. In Holland, however, will probably be added to some now. Because of a "procedural error" in a Dutch fertility clinic may have been fertilized egg cells with sperm, which did not come from the desired man.

Mistakenly fertilized with the false man's ejaculate
Many couples turn to fertility clinics for unfulfilled infertility. In such a facility in the Netherlands, there could now be a scandal.

According to a news agency AFP, several women in the clinic may have been mistakenly artificially fertilized with the false man's ejaculate.

The University Hospital in Utrecht thus explained that the sperm of this man in the in vitro process because of a "procedural error" may have been merged with the ova of 26 women who wanted to produce a child with their own partner.

Not from the intended father
One statement stated, "There is a possibility that eggs were fertilized with semen that is not from the intended father." According to the information, the affected couples were informed. An investigation should clarify as quickly as possible.

It is said that half of the potentially mistreated women became pregnant and some have already given birth to their offspring.

If the suspicion should be confirmed, the biological father of these children would not be the mother's partner, as the couple would have wished, but another man.

Treatment in case of unfulfilled desire for children
IVF (In Vitro Fertilization - Latin for "fertilization in the glass") is an artificial insemination that has been used since 1978 in the treatment of unmet need for children.

Eggs are taken from the mother and then fertilized in the laboratory with the sperm of the father and put back into the mother's ovaries. Since then, several million children have been born worldwide using test tube fertilization.

In Germany, the costs of artificial insemination are partly covered by the health insurance companies.

Confusions of semen are rare
Although confusions of semen are rare, but they would happen. For example, in 2012 a case was reported in Singapore in which a woman was mistakenly fertilized with semen that was not her husband's.

A report on a doctor from the US, who fertilized at least 50 women with their own sperm, was also very eye-catching. The physician said they wanted to help the women and could not always find enough sperm donors, which is why he resorted to his own ejaculate.

He had always kept the women from the true origin of the seed and claimed that he came from a doctor's colleagues or medical students. As the Washington Times reported, the now 77-year-old is said to be the biological father of at least eight children. (Ad)
