New center for sexual health in Bochum opened

Experts network in new facility
In Bochum today, the nation's first center for combating sexually transmitted diseases is starting work. In the model project, various facilities and organizations such as e.g. the health department Bochum and pro familia closely linked to prevent information and education, the spread of sexually transmitted diseases.

Six institutions under one roof
On Friday, the first center for sexual health and medicine in Germany will open in Bochum under the motto "WE" (Walk In Ruhr). Six established institutions, such as the municipal health department, an immunological outpatient clinic, Aidshilfe and various counseling centers work closely together in this model project as well as in close contact with specialists and GPs, according to a recent Communication from the Center.

Prevention behavior should be strengthened
The project is scientifically supported by the Federal Ministry of Health and now aims to provide education, diagnosis, therapy and psychosocial support for all issues related to Sexual Health and Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI). The aim is to strengthen the prevention behavior in this area and to be able to treat infections as quickly as possible through early diagnoses. "We are also open to people with the desire for sexual counseling, for couples with unfulfilled desire for children and many more. The number of people seeking advice is constantly increasing, "according to the initiator and medical director of the center, Prof. Norbert H. Brockmeyer.
