Gesundheitskasse Südwest: New regional health insurance company with around two million insured - Board members of the three funds agree to merger on October 1, 2011

07/07/2011

As of October 1, 2011, the new health insurance Southwest will be launched. The board members of the AOK of the Saarland, the AOK Rhineland-Palatinate and the IKK Südwest unanimously approved this in their meetings.

The new large-scale fund for the federal states of Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland then insures around 1.4 million members (1.9 million insured). With a market share of more than 40 percent, the health insurance fund Südwest is thus the regional market leader and one of the largest health insurance companies in Germany. The seat of the head office will be in the Rhineland-Palatinate Eisenberg, Saarland will have its own directorate in Saarbrücken.

„This merger is unique nationwide and represents a milestone for health policy in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland. It is the first cross-fund merger in which three health insurance companies are involved“, the board members Walter Bockemühl (AOK Rhineland-Palatinate), Karlheinz Delarber (AOK Saarland) and Frank Spaniol (IKK Südwest).

„The merger is a stroke of luck for the entire region“, Supplement the employer representatives from the Boards of Directors of the participating funds Winfried Burger (IKK Southwest), Willi Kuhn (AOK Rheinland-Pfalz) and Joachim Malter (AOK Saarland). „We are confident that, with our strengthened position as market leader, we will be able to do a lot for the benefit of the people of the Southwest.“ While other competitors are in the red and many health insurance companies have to levy additional contributions, the members of the health insurance fund Southwest will be spared in the future by such additional financial burdens.

„In times when nationwide is discussed about the tight financial situation of health insurance, we send a clear signal: Our insured will continue to pay no additional contribution in the future“, emphasize the insured representatives from the respective boards of directors Gerhard Freiler (IKK Southwest), Dietmar Muscheid (AOK Rhineland-Palatinate) and Alfred Staudt (AOK Saarland). „Thus, we will continue to offer our policyholders a noticeable price advantage in the future.”

Both the members of the Executive Board and the Chairman of the Board of Directors exclude any redundancies due to the merger - on the contrary: the new South West Health Insurance Fund, with a total of around 4,500 employees, will be among the top ten employers in the southwest. An area-wide network of branches in Rhineland-Palatinate and Saarland ensures close support for the insured and employers in the region. (Pm)
