Neck overstretched when washing hair - Unexpected stroke after a hairdressing visit
The visit to the barber had dramatic consequences for a 45-year-old Briton. Apparently, his neck was overstretched during hair-washing so much that an artery was damaged. A short time later, he suffered a stroke on the consequences of which he still has to suffer today.
Neck overstretched when washing hair
If the question "With or without washing" is asked at the hairdresser's visit, it may be advantageous not only for the purse, but in exceptional cases also for the health, to answer "Without". As the newspaper "The Times" reports, a 45-year-old British man at the barber's hair washing on the pelvis was apparently overstretched so much that he suffered a stroke two days later.
Artery was damaged
According to the report, Dave Tyler was brought to the National Hospital for Neurology and Neurosurgery in London after his collapse during a business meeting. There he was asked the unusual question: "Have you been recently cut your hair?"
The doctors assume that the artery was damaged during the extensive stretching of the neck, so that a blood clot formed and it subsequently came to the stroke. The physicians speak in this context of so-called "Beauty Parlor Syndrome" ("beauty salon syndrome").
Patient suffers today to the consequences
Although such cases are extremely rare, but not unknown in the art. For example, magazines reported a similar incident in San Diego (USA) in January 2014 and another in southern England in 2000.
According to the latest newspaper report, Dave Tyler spent three months in London's specialty clinic following the stroke in 2011. He still walks on the stick today, suffers from vision problems and will probably never be able to drive again.
The injured party sued the barbershop because he did not protect his neck sufficiently. According to The Times, he received compensation for out-of-court settlements of 90,000 pounds (around 107,000 euros). (Ad)
