Many pets end up at the shelter after New Year's Eve

03/01/2012

For many pets, the start to the new year ended badly. According to information from the animal welfare association in Berlin, numerous dogs and cats were exposed on New Year's Eve or ran away due to the bang. For most animals, the owners have not yet reported.

New Year's Eve is a very bad time for pets and wildlife. They experience flares and bangers very negative and often respond with panic attacks. So it is not uncommon for dogs to break free and run away from fear. On New Year's Day, the Animal Protection Association registered for Berlin and the surrounding area 24 abandoned or run away dogs and cats. „Many times the dogs ran away because they were terrified of cracking at night for New Year“, report the animal rights activists. In the New Year's Eve, so far unknown people had exposed two cats in front of the animal shelter in Falkenberg (Berlin).

Chip facilitates the finder of the pet owners
A big problem is that many pets are not equipped with a chip. Thus, it is very difficult to identify the pet owner. Since New Year's Eve, 22 dogs have been brought to the animal collection center. Only one dog had a chip, reports animal protection association spokeswoman Stephanie Eschen. Eschen made it clear once again that the „Chip marking is required by law since 2010“. Pet owners should absolutely install such a chip, so that a retrieval in case of emergency is possible.

Only five runaway dogs have since been picked up again. The other animals are released after a veterinary examination for mediation. At the shelter currently live according to club 1300 animal, including 364 dogs and 408 cats. (Sb)
