After release onslaught on pill afterwards
In mid-March, the prescription requirement for the "morning after pill" was lifted in Germany. Since the release, the sales of contraceptives have skyrocketed. According to a newspaper report, sales increased by around 40 percent.
Sales rose by about 40 percent
The sales figures for the "morning after pill" according to a message from the news agency AFP have skyrocketed since the end of the prescription requirement. According to figures from the health information service IMS Health, "Bild" newspaper reported that sales rose by around 40 percent in mid-March following the release of contraceptive products. According to the information, between 13,000 and 14,000 packs are sold per week. By March, however, sales were only an average of 9,500 packs.
Fertilization after unprotected sex is prevented
In March, the prescription requirement for the products available in Germany had been repealed. Thus, a corresponding decision of the European Commission had been implemented. In this country, two different preparations are available as "morning after pill". These suppress or delay ovulation. Thus, the means prevent after an unprotected intercourse fertilization. The statutory health insurance companies cover the costs for young women up to the age of 20, if they submit a prescription. If they can not do that, they have to pay for the pill out of their own pocket after consulting the pharmacy. The price is between 16 and 18 euros.
Detailed advice is not guaranteed
In particular, gynecologists had warned against the release of the "pill after" because the necessary detailed advice, which is now imposed on the pharmacist, in the customer interview was not to afford. But even since the end of the prescription requirement does not break the criticism. For example, the Bavarian health minister Melanie Huml recently warned against a "careless handling" of emergency contraception. The drug interferes massively in the hormone balance of the women. Also known are various side effects such as headache, dizziness, pelvic pain, bleeding, nausea and vomiting. The drug is similar to the conventional "anti-baby pill", but the concentrations of active ingredients are many times higher. (Ad)
