MRSA germs in the hospital Dresden-Neustadt
Aggressive germs in the Dresden-Neustadt hospital: Six patients already infected
19/09/2012
In the city hospital Dresden-Neustadt are currently „aggressive germs“ threaten the health of patients. As the Saxon Ministry of Social Affairs explained, the antibiotic-resistant bacteria were reported by the clinic recently to the Dresden authorities. This confirmed a spokesman for the Ministry „partly“ a media report of Bild newspaper on Wednesday.
The newspaper reported that since this morning in the hospital for accident, recovery and orthopedic surgery resistant germs „are out of control“. According to this, a total of six patients had been infected with the methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus strain (MRSA) since Sunday.
The treatment of patients who have been infected with the so-called hospital germ, is extremely difficult because the bacteria hardly or not at all respond to common antibiotics. The use of so-called reserve antibiotic drugs often does not lead to successful treatment.
According to the Ministry of Social Affairs, the Dresden clinic has relocated the infected patients to an isolated ward so that they do not infect other patients. In addition, the Traumatology Station „CH1“ closed on the first floor of the house C / D.
On Tuesday, Social Affairs Minister Christine Clauß (CDU) intervened. „The problem with the aggressive germs shows the need for my MRSA network introduced in 2010. The Minister called on the clinic, „quickly find the cause so that a spread is stopped“.
Antibiotic-resistant germs are increasingly found in environments where antibiotic drugs are constantly being used. Although the drugs can kill the majority of pathogens, a few bacteria survive because they are already mutated and resistant to conventional antibiotics. According to recent studies, around 50,000 people in Germany are infected with MRSA germs every year. In some clinics up to 30 percent of acquired infectious diseases are based on MRSA. According to a study commissioned by the „Technician health insurance“ The number of MRSA infections in hospitals in Schleswig-Holstein alone increased by 192 percent between 2006 and 2009. In other states too, the increase was in some cases 200 percent. In the course of today, the clinic management in Dresden-Neustadt will make a statement. (Sb)
