07/24/2013

Most Germans spend their lunch break with colleagues. This resulted in a recent Forsa survey. According to the survey, 48 percent of the working people take four to five working days for a lunch break. If it gets stressful, it also has to be canceled.

No time for restaurant visits during the lunch break
The lunch break is not only for recreation but also for the maintenance of social contacts. According to a Forsa survey, 64 percent of working people spend their lunch break with colleagues. Every third employee goes to the break room or lounge, 18 percent spend their breaks in the canteen and 28 percent stay at work.

As it turned out, many working people in Germany only have half an hour to lunch (about half of the respondents), so that extended restaurant visits as they are quite common in France or Italy, must be canceled. When it gets stressful at work or an appointment is due, leave 59 percent of workers even their lunch break completely, the survey.

In addition to lunch but also other occupations during the break. So more than every third woman goes shopping in the time. Men want to recover. That's why only 20 percent do errands during their lunch break. While 15 percent of men take a small nap, only six percent of women report sleeping at lunchtime, although the short nap encourages concentration and efficiency. One in five takes a walk after lunch.

Frequently fast food during the lunch break
As part of the study „Eat something, Germany?“, which the Forsa Institute carried out on behalf of the Techniker Krankenkasse in January 2013, showed that especially young people do not attach much importance to healthy food. Four out of ten young adults are typing on their smartphone while eating. By the way, many of the TVs also go without saying. Many meals are also not taken at home but on the way, such as in the S-Bahn a piece of pizza. In the evening, a visit to the fast food restaurant is on. The study concludes that the diet day for every third adult under 25 years at least three times per week in this way.

The group of workers is also increasingly worrying nutritionists as many workers barely find time to have a healthy lunch in a timely manner. According to the study, a healthy diet is often difficult to reconcile with work. Only one worker in two can therefore have lunch in peace. (Ag)
