Acne in adults: what are the causes?
Acne is most common during puberty. But beyond the age of 30, adults can suffer from pimples and blackheads. In particular, women are affected. The reasons for pimples in adulthood are different: unhealthy eating, stress at work or private life or even hormonal dispositions and changes. Do not help simple home remedies for acne, a doctor should be consulted. Unauthorized expressions should be omitted. It can threaten inflammation.

Impure skin from 30

During puberty, pimples and blackheads are common in adolescents. If you are still suffering from blemished skin at 30, this does not seem normal to many. But the problem is not so rare: Acne in adults is relatively common. Especially women are affected. Triggers can include stress or improper diet. As Prof. Philipp Babilas from Skin Center Regensburg told the news agency dpa, the sebaceous glands, which are increasingly active, are the linchpin of adult acne. Even after puberty, it can happen that sebaceous glands clog and form blackheads. According to Babilas, this is partly because some people simply have a genetic predisposition to it.

Adult acne can have many causes

Another cause, especially in women, are the hormones. As Babilas, who is a member of the German Dermatologists Association, explained that a dysbalance of sex hormones - in women too high a level of male sex hormones - can ensure that the pores clog faster. After hormonal changes, such as stopping the pill or giving birth, women often discover that their skin is changing as well.

In addition to genetic predisposition and hormone world, diet also plays a role. Barbara Fehrenbach of the Federal Association of German beauticians (BDK) told dpa that it has been found that foods with a high glycemic index have an effect on the skin. When the blood sugar level goes up, it also affects the production of sebaceous glands.

In this context, the expert recommends being moderate on foods rich in sugar and carbohydrates. You should also reduce saturated fat as possible. According to Babilas, even dairy products may increase the impure skin, as the proteins in it have an inflammatory effect. Animal proteins should therefore be consumed only in moderation. Vegetable proteins are not a problem. Emel Bütün from the Hamburg Vocational College for Cosmetics (HBK) added that it is also good to drink a lot of water. Help can also home remedies for pimples such as tea tree oil or apple cider vinegar.

Proper skin care

The psyche also has an important meaning. "Our skin is our mirror," said Bütün. It makes itself felt in the skin, how we are internally - mentally and organically. In most cases, adults are more likely to do more than teenagers when they have pimples and blackheads. Quick is then rumgekratzt in the face. This can have consequences: "The hand and the nails are never clinically pure," explained Fehrenbach. By pressing and scratching smeared and scatter the acne bacteria. Babilas added, "That would not be as bad for many as it looks like." Last but not least, poor skin care can also be reflected.

Products with mineral oil should be better avoided. By such means nothing can in or out: "The skin is dense." Some remedies especially against acne do not necessarily work as desired, but are very aggressive and dry the skin out: This is counterproductive, because then the skin has too little sebum and produces even more, says Fehrenbach. The expert advises on light creams and mild cleansing gels with as few chemical additives as possible. In addition, you should clean the facial skin twice a day, advise other professionals.

Therapy can take up to a year

The range of possible causes is great. To find out why it is that you still have pimples at 30, the experts advise you to tackle the problem together with a dermatologist. "This is a program that is being processed," Babilas explained. The dermatologist also works with a gynecological expert to clarify what the hormone level looks like. "Especially with women, it is often the case that you have something of everything," says the doctor. "With the overall program, there are dramatic improvements." Also consulted is a beautician.

The impure skin can be treated, for example, with fruit acid scrubs. According to Bütün, the uppermost skin cells are removed. In addition, the skin is gently cleansed. According to Babilas, such therapy sometimes takes up to a year. "The goal is that the skin texture stabilizes." Affected but also after an improvement continue to pay attention to eat a healthy, stress and scratching to avoid and to take proper care. For further treatment, then further cosmetic treatments come into question. Masks from healing earth can also be used. (Ad)
