More men resort to intimate surgery

More and more men perform cosmetic surgery

Full hair, firm skin, well-trained bodies: men are increasingly attaching importance to the condition of their bodies, not least because of social ideals. Cosmetic surgery is not only being used more and more by women, but also more men are removing wrinkles, lifting their face or making penis enlargements. Men are the most likely to remove body fat, as explained by the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery in a presentation of current study data on Wednesday in Berlin. But such interventions actually boost self-esteem?

The trend towards surgical plastic surgery is unbroken. What is new is that more and more men are taking the knife to have smaller and larger non-medically necessary corrections made. It will not only liposuction performed, but also more surgeries. „Meanwhile penis enlargements are in 7th place of the cosmetic surgery in men“, said the President of the German Society for Aesthetic Plastic Surgery Sven of Saldern. The association surprised even this development. „The procedure is purely aesthetic“, said of Saldern.

A survey of 1100 patients resulted in this result. In top position, the fat in men suck. Women are the most likely to enlarge their breasts (29 percent). Women also have more and more surgery in the genital area. Although this somewhat new type of cosmetic surgery does not end up in the upper ranks of the survey, a significant increase can be observed. The association chairman explains this circumstance with the significant increase of shaves in the genital area. „This certainly has something to do with the trend towards intimate shaving.“, said the doctor. Unlike male patients, women often have the operation performed on the basis of functional symptoms. The procedures can often relieve or eliminate pain and other discomforts. „For the men there is only the desire for more volume. A psychologically particularly sensitive topic, because not always the high expectations can be met.“, admonishes the expert. Because such interventions can increase neither the potency nor the general attractiveness. This is in the opinion of the association a highly sensitive topic, because „not always the high expectations can be fulfilled.“ The surgeon does not believe that a consistent trend can be seen from the study findings, „which spreads across the width.“ Only a few years ago people hardly talked about this topic, that today is different. Thus, it may be that more men openly confess to such alleged corrections.

According to the survey of women and men, injections and wrinkle fillers (fillers) for wrinkle correction are very popular. However, the study was only performed among patients who had already undergone surgery. Actual figures, how many cosmetic operations were undertaken in Germany, do not exist. According to the association's view, however, the total number of operations decreases „certain fluctuations in recent years“, said of Saldern.“ An increasing trend is the so-called „gentle procedure“ like fillers and Botox watch. This is contrasted by a representative survey conducted by GfK Marktforschung. Over 70 percent of the women surveyed said they „under no circumstance“ would resort to an operative wrinkle correction. Only about 2.1 percent of respondents said they had undergone wrinkle-smoothing cosmetic surgery. And only 1.1 percent have already had Botox injections for wrinkle therapy. A majority, however, relies on sports, healthy nutrition and positive lifestyle. (Sb)
