More energy Coffee increases endurance in sports
Time and again we hear that coffee should have positive effects on our health. Now there is another study that gives us more reasons to continue drinking coffee in the future. American scientists found that coffee increases our stamina during various workouts.
Some decades ago, coffee was still said to cause lasting damage to health. But more and more studies have proven in recent years that coffee can have a positive effect on the human body. American researchers from the "University of Georgia" have now been able to prove in a recent study that coffee, for example, increases our endurance while jogging. The results of their research published in the journal "International Journal of Sports Nutrition and Exercise Metabolism" (IJSNEM).

The American researchers tested whether coffee can have a positive impact on our stamina. While there is a plethora of studies on pure caffeine, there is a lack of high-quality research looking at coffee as a caffeine source, study author Simon Higgins said. For a long time it was thought that coffee would not bring the same benefits as pure caffeine. But the results of the new study could now lead to athletes exchanging their caffeine pill for a cup of coffee.
Subjects drank coffee and then cycled or jogged
As part of their study, scientists from the University of Georgia analyzed nine older studies that looked at possible effects of normal coffee. The amount of caffeine in a cup of coffee varies between 75 mg and 150 mg, depending on the type of coffee and the preparation. The American doctors examined how coffee affects our athletic endurance. For this reason, the subjects in the investigation drank coffee and then rode or jogged.
Endurance performance through coffee increased by 24 percent
The results were clear: Through the training the coffee drinkers showed an increased improvement of their condition. Coffee has been found to increase our endurance performance by an average of 24 percent, Higgins said. In addition, coffee helps to reduce the perceived effort for athletes. However, more research was needed before the physicians could officially recommend the athletes to use coffee to improve their athletic endurance. Coffee is not equal to coffee. The amount of caffeine was very different, depending on the variety and the preparation, the physicians added in their study. (As)
