Versatile
Carrots do not always have to be orange in color. Meanwhile, purple, yellow or red carrots are commercially available. This is pointed out by the Provincial Association of Rhineland Fruit and Vegetable Farmers (Bonn).
"The variety of varieties of carrots, which has only been rediscovered in recent years, provides variety and color on the plate. The taste of the different colored varieties do not differ. But they are a real eye-catcher, "writes the association.
The uses of carrots are extremely varied: raw as a snack, as a soup vegetable, as a vegetable garnish or in a carrot cake.
"Especially in the fall and winter months, but also a freshly squeezed juice from carrots, other root vegetables and apples is ideal to prevent something for colds to take," said Provincial Association.
Fresh carrots do not have to be peeled
Packed in a foil bag, carrots can easily be stored in the fridge for several days.
But they are also very good for freezing, if too much has been purchased.
Although hobby cooks usually peel carrots before processing, this is not necessary with freshly purchased goods since they were washed shortly before they were sold.
By dispensing with peeling, important ingredients can be obtained. (Ad)
