More foreign patients can be treated in Germany
Medical tourism is booming: More and more foreign patients can be treated in German hospitals. At the forefront are Russian patients, such as the „pharmacy magazine“ (6/2014 B) reported. According to the report, followed by Americans and patients from the Middle East. But overall it is still about a niche market. In 2012, there were only 224,000 foreigners out of 19 million native patients, of whom 90,000 were hospitalized. For the German clinics, this would still be an interesting source of income, as they would not have many other ways to draw money from external sources in their damn funds.
Medical tourism brings almost 1.1 billion euros
The medical tourism sink meanwhile nearly 1.1 billion euro in the German health system, like the „Doctors newspaper“ reported in January. The average proportion of foreign patients in German hospitals is therefore 0.5 percent. About ten percent of the clinics in this country were explicitly dedicated to this business area, and with increasing success. A study by Bonn-Rhein-Sieg University of Applied Sciences came to the conclusion that 88 percent of these facilities had an increasing number of patients. (Ad)
