A 16-year-old girl was hospitalized by rescue workers of the Berlin fire department with 3.9 per thousand.
24.01.2011
After they had found the girl completely drunk in the Werbellinstraße in the district Neukölln, passer-by alerted at 0.35 clock the emergency call. The 16-year-old had been so drunk that she could no longer stand on her own legs and broke down again and again, report the helpers. In the ambulance of the rescue workers, the teenager then lost consciousness and was taken to the hospital by the paramedics. Here, the doctors found a blood alcohol value of 3.9 per thousand, which may be life threatening, especially for adolescents. Even a blood alcohol level from 3.0 per thousand is according to the experts, possibly fatal. For the girl, however, is reportedly no mortal danger, she remains for the time being, according to police, under medical supervision. The rescue workers in Berlin have also picked up a 15-year-old boy that was completely drunk at the underground station Bayerischer Platz that same night. Passengers had alerted the emergency call because of the apparently helpless state of the teenager. Even with the boy, a frighteningly high blood alcohol value was measured with 2.1 per thousand.
Hospital deliveries for alcohol abuse are on the rise
The number of adolescents who have to be hospitalized with alcohol poisoning has risen dramatically in Germany in recent years. On the basis of information provided by the statistical offices of the Länder, the German Employees' Health Insurance Fund (DAK) determined that the number of clinically treated cases of alcohol abuse in persons between the ages of ten and 20 has increased in some cases by more than 70 percent in the last six years. In many federal states, the number of alcohol-related hospitalizations of adolescents last year reached a worrying high, the DAK reported at the end of last year. Therefore, the health insurance companies want to significantly intensify their prevention work in collaboration with the doctors and clinics in the coming years. For example, the DAK goes with its campaign „colorful instead of blue“ directly to the schools to explain the consequences of alcohol abuse. (Fp)
