Miracle drugs should help you lose weight

"Gaining a few pounds is easy - not getting rid of them," says Wiebke Franz, a nutrition expert at the Hesse Consumer Agency.

"Many diets and slimming products promise quick successes, but often can not keep these promises or are even dangerous," says the expert.

For example, advertising for so-called "fat burners" promises true wonders: "Losing weight without exercise - eating everything and losing weight!"

If a product is so praised, the alarm should ring. Because often such supplements appear on the Internet to lose weight with dangerous and prohibited substances.

But even for harmless substances is not yet proven that you lose a lot of weight with their help. The consumer advocates therefore advise against "fat burners", in particular products from insecure sources on the Internet.

Do without the dinner

Among those who want to lose weight, the advice to stop eating after 6 pm is widespread.

This is based on the fact that in a night phase without food intake, the blood sugar level drops, resulting in less insulin being released, thereby mobilizing fats from fat deposits.

However, the bottom line is the total calorie intake over 24 hours is crucial. You can lose weight only if you consume more energy than supplying.

Intervall fasting is trendy

Eat eight hours and starve for the next 16 hours? Or rather fasting for two whole days and enjoying the rest of the week without remorse?

The advantage of the Intervallfastens should lie in the fact that it brings little change in everyday life. For those who eat as usual and only two at low and low in calories, can still accept invitations or go out to dinner.

Comparisons with other diets show that interval fasting helps to lose weight.

"Still, having five days to eat, what and how much you feel like is only sensible if you make the food choices healthier overall," says Franz.

Less carbohydrates - less fat

When it comes to successful weight loss methods, the low carb diet is often highlighted.

Studies have shown that diets that reduce carbohydrates can help you lose weight. According to the consumer advocates, the same benefits can be achieved in the long term if one reduces the consumption of fats.

But beware: Who largely or completely renounced carbohydrates, this can only be tough in the long run. The result: The pounds come back with the old eating habits quickly.

Significantly less white bread, pastries, snacks and sweets, and more vegetables to consume products from the whole grain and protein-rich foods, on the other hand, can help to lose weight and keep the new weight.

Fat or reduced-sugar foods are not automatically low in calories

As the Consumer Advice goes on to explain, low-fat or low-sugar foods are not automatically low in calories.

They only need to contain at least 30 percent less sugar or fat compared to regular foods in the same category.

The manufacturers usually replace the omitted nutrient with other ingredients that often also provide energy, or with flavors, sweeteners and fillers.

"Did you know that many, assuming fewer calories, gain more access to the supposed light product?" Asks Franz.

"It's better to opt for natural lightweights such as jacket potatoes instead of fries. Then you consume less calories even without expensive special products. "(Ad)
