In the future there will be training for teachers in Thuringia, if a child with type 1 diabetes participates in the class. Around 30,000 children and adolescents under the age of 18 suffer from diabetes type 1 in Germany. Thousands of people come every year.
Help children with diabetes
There will be training for teachers in Thuringia in the future, if a child with type 1 diabetes attends classes. A doctor from Jena had in 2013 in a petition to the Diet demanded unbureaucratic diabetes training for teachers. This reports the pharmacy magazine „Diabetes Guide“ (10/2014). 1,700 supporters joined the petition, leading them to success. Often, teachers may not be able to help a child with diabetes, for example if they get low blood sugar. This situation is to be improved by the training.
30,000 children and adolescents with diabetes
In Germany, around 30,000 children and adolescents under the age of 18 suffer from type 1 diabetes. The report says they need to inject insulin with each meal and regularly monitor their blood sugar. Last year, the German Diabetes Aid warned that about 2,100 to 2,300 children aged up to 14 years would be added each year. Often, the word diabetes refers to older or overweight people, but unlike Type 2, Type 1 diabetes is not related to obesity and unhealthy eating habits. The causes are only partially known. This is linked to genetic factors or environmental factors such as viral infections. (Ad)
