Long prison sentences for the parents of vegan-fed children?
Researchers recently reported what it would be like if all people were vegetarians everywhere. According to the experts, it would make the planet and humans much better. However, not everyone is open to a meatless diet. In Italy, former Prime Minister Berlusconi's party is now demanding up to two years' imprisonment for parents of vegan-fed children.
Meatless diet for health reasons
Vegan diet is trendy. Often, the health aspect is in the foreground: typical civilization diseases such as obesity, diabetes or high blood lipid levels are rare in vegans. Also, the offspring of parents who eat purely vegetable, often lives without animal products. Nutrition and health professionals have many tips on what parents should consider when taking their children's vegan diet. However, some people basically see it as a problem when the little ones grow up vegan.

The German Federal Nutrition Minister Christian Schmidt (CSU) has spoken out against a vegan diet for children. He called for a school subject that taught balanced nutrition.

Up to two years imprisonment for parents
According to a press release by APA, Forza Italia, the opposition party led by former Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, has submitted a bill to the parliament in Rome, which provides for up to one year imprisonment for parents if they turn their under-16s into a vegan Force diet. It is said that the sentence increases to two years when it comes to children under the age of three.
"Adults can opt for vegan diet, of course. The problem is, if this diet is imposed on children, "said the Forza Italia parliamentarian Elvira Savino. The politician warned against "dangerous diets" to which parents force their children.
Mother has to prepare meat for her son weekly according to the court
In Italy, the case of a one-year-old child has recently caused a scandal. According to the agency report, the child was only fed vegan food by his parents, was severely malnourished and had to undergo surgery for a heart defect. The parents had then been deprived of custody of the boy.
And also in the Lombard city of Bergamo landed last year, a case in court, which was about nutrition. The judges, who dealt with the dispute of an ex-married couple about the diet of the common twelve-year-old son, decided that the mother, who relies on macrobiotic nutrition, must prepare meat for the boy at least once a week.
