Health insurance with 3.1 billion in the deficit

Health insurance with 3.1 billion in the deficit / Health News

Statutory health insurance this year with 3.1 billion euros in deficit.

(28.04.2010) So far, it was assumed that the statutory health insurance companies are missing around 4 billion euros, new calculations now give an estimated deficit of 3.1 billion euros for the year 2010. The planned savings in the drugs were already included. In December of last year, much higher sums were expected. At that time, it was assumed that the number of unemployed would be higher. Now, one seems to assume a lower unemployment rate. This allowed 900 million euros to be deducted from the estimates at that time. Another aspect is the savings planned by the federal government for medicines. As a result, the health insurance companies can save around 500 million euros. Nevertheless, the expected deficit of health insurance with 3.1 billion euros is still quite high.

According to official estimates, SHI insurances receive around 170.3 billion euros from the health fund. The expenditure of all public health insurance companies is estimated at 173.4 billion euros. The fund is expected to take 172 billion euros. This creates a difference between the expenditure and the revenue side. This difference must pay the health insurance companies themselves. Some health insurance companies therefore accept the controversial additional contributions from their members since the beginning of the year. Some health insurance companies like the DAK charge a lump sum additional contribution of eight euros per month. Other health insurance companies can compensate for the deficits with their own financial reserves. Overall, rising contributions to health insurance are expected in the future. (Sm)
