Merger of IKK classic and the United IKK decided

The board members of IKK classic and the United IKK have now finally approved a merger. From the two funds created for the first of August, the joint health insurance with the title „IKK classic“. A total of 3.6 million people will be covered by health insurance at the newly merged fund. This makes the IKK classic the fifth largest statutory health insurance in Germany.

The merger had become necessary because the financial situation of the United IKK as „chipped“ applies. In May, the Management Committee met to discuss remedial measures. At that time, the introduction of an additional contribution was also debated in order to improve the situation. Subsequently, an annual additional contribution of € 96 per contributory member was charged. The planned merger will now eliminate the additional contribution. Representatives of the Innungskrankenkasse emphasized that they are trying to demand no additional contribution from the insured until 2013. By merging one could set oneself strengthened and assert oneself on the cash market. Michael Förstermann, spokesman for the IKK classic emphasized that the merger would not be a disadvantage for the insured. Rather, there will be numerous additional offers. For example, it is planned to pay for homeopathic treatments.

After the merger, all insured persons can keep the health insurance cards. For insured persons of the United IKK, the chip cards will be exchanged for new cards after the expiry date. The merger creates the largest guild health insurance fund in Germany, which was formerly founded as a health insurance fund specifically for craftsmen and employees of medium-sized companies. With the merger of IKK classic and the IKK, the largest guild health insurance fund and the 5th largest statutory health insurance fund in Germany is created with around 3.6 million members. (Sb)
