02/02/2015

In the Baden-Württemberg Tieringen on the weekend may have been a disaster prevented. The DRK emergency medical service cleared a house after carbon monoxide leaked. Eight people had to go to hospital for respiratory and pulmonary complaints.

Unconscious 82-year-old person
In the night from Saturday to Sunday, the emergency service of the DRK-Kreisverband Zollernalb in Tieringen, Baden-Württemberg, possibly prevented a catastrophe. Again „Zollern-Alb-Kurier“ reported online, the emergency medical service was initially informed by relatives of an 82-year-old person who was unconscious. Helpers of the DRK Tieringen immediately carried out the first life-saving measures. Other relatives found themselves in the house and the rescue service was a short time later on site.

Carbon monoxide alarm of the rescue service
An employee noticed a strange smell, according to information from the DRK district association, and a short time later, the rescue service's carbon monoxide alarm suddenly came off. The staff of the emergency service then cleared the house immediately. In addition, help from fire brigades was requested. Several local people had lung and respiratory problems. A total of eight patients had to be taken to a clinic as a precautionary measure. The 82-year-old patient came to a special clinic on Sunday, which has a pressure chamber.

Dangers to health
The carbon monoxide is likely to have escaped after first measurements of the fire department from an oil stove. Carbon monoxide can cause headaches even in low concentrations. At higher concentrations, more serious symptoms such as palpitations, hallucinations, dizziness, shortness of breath, nausea and vomiting or fainting threaten. In addition to oil stoves or gas water heaters, it can also cause a carbon monoxide poisoning when grilling, when the toxic gases reach the apartment. (Ad)
