A child in Lower Bavaria suffered life-threatening injuries while firing, reports the news agency dpa. The police said on Friday that four other playmates had been injured. The day before, the six- to twelve-year-olds had collected a pile of rice in a forest near Bodenkirchen (Vilsbiburg district) and lit it with the help of methylated spirits. It came thereby to a deflagration. As a result, a child with life-threatening burns had to be flown to a clinic. The others came to the hospital with slight injuries for observation. Relatives are cared for by a crisis intervention team.

Every year thousands of children with burn injuries
Especially with young people in Germany, burn injuries occur very frequently. The Federal Statistical Office calculated for the year 2012, which annually around 10,000 children and adolescents up to the age of 19 with burns hospitalized nationwide. According to the Burnt Children Initiative, around 1,300 of them are victims of barbecue accidents. Experts therefore advise again and again that you should not use methylated spirits when grilling. The result of burns is often lifelong scars and a long, painful treatment. (Ad)
