All clear in Lower Saxony
According to a report by the dpa news agency, no pesticide residues have been detected in organic eggs in Lower Saxony. The State Office for Consumer Protection and Food Safety was able to give the all-clear on 15 of the 18 supplied with contaminated feed on Sunday. The authorities said: „For consumers, when eating the previously sold as organic commodity eggs from no health risk.“ As the Office further stated, no proof can be expected from the pending investigations, since no residues were found in all the egg samples present so far. The reason for the investigations was chicken feed, which was contaminated with pesticide residues. This came from the Ukraine and was sold as a compound feed from the Netherlands to farms in Lower Saxony.
Health problems caused by pesticides
Pesticide finds in agriculture or in waters occur relatively frequently. For humans, these chemicals pose various health hazards. For example, skin problems such as an itchy rash threaten with skin contact. In addition, certain pesticides in certain amounts may cause allergies, gastrointestinal complaints, fertility and genetic damage, neonatal birth defects and even cancer. In acute poisoning with pesticides may cause symptoms such as dyspnea, dizziness, blurred vision, eye and skin damage, muscle spasms or loss of consciousness. (Ad)
