Caries of the deciduous teeth - so children are spared in the long term
Prevent tooth decay with the help of fluoride varnish
In adults and adolescents, decay has been declining for years. By contrast, not much has happened to children under the age of three. Around 14 percent of children in Germany already suffer from tooth decay before their third birthday. Milk teeth require special attention because they are much more prone to tooth decay. A special Fluriodlack should now spare the children painful toothache.
The Institute for Quality and Efficiency in Health Care (IQWiG) recently published a report on the effectiveness of flurid varnish to combat tooth decay. Accordingly, flurid varnish was effective in deciduous teeth for remineralization of the tooth surface and against the development and progression of caries. According to the IQWiG, the use of fast-curing fluoride varnish contributes significantly to the oral hygiene of infants.

"Tooth decay caused by bacteria in the plaque, sugary foods and poor oral hygiene," explain the IQWiG researchers in a press release to the report. Children are particularly vulnerable to the bruen spots on the teeth. On the first teeth, the enamel is more sensitive and not as strong as with permanent teeth. Even in the early stages of permanent teeth, these are more susceptible to tooth decay.
Caries in the deciduous teeth also favored later tooth decay
According to IQWiG, there is a risk that permanent teeth will soon be damaged by caries if the milk teeth were already affected. Particularly in infants, oral hygiene and thus the prevention of tooth decay could be a challenge.
Fluridlack analysis
To better understand the effectiveness of Fluridlack, IQWiG researchers analyzed the results of 15 randomized controlled trials in which approximately 5,000 children were treated with fluoride varnish. The control group was data from approximately 4,700 children who did not receive flurid treatment. The follow-up time was two to three years in most studies.
Fluridlack showed clear advantages
Children whose deciduous teeth were treated with the varnish had significantly fewer decay than the control group without flurid varnish. The IQWiG reports that in about one in ten children could be completely prevented by the Flurid treatment caries. For other children, at least the progression of caries was avoidable. It obviously did not matter if the children had caries at the time of the flurid treatment or not.
Help Fluridlack against other dental problems?
Some studies also looked at the effects of flurid varnish on other dental defects such as tooth loss, dental abscesses or gingivitis. According to IQWiG, the data showed no difference between the intervention group and the control group. However, the data are not meaningful enough, so that no statement can be made about the advantages or disadvantages of the fluoride paint application in this area.
You should not trust Fluridlack alone. The most effective way to prevent serious illness is through proper oral hygiene. (Vb)
