For months, a dangerous Ebola epidemic has been rampant in several countries in West Africa. According to official data, the infectious disease has already claimed at least 729 lives and around 1,300 people are said to be infected. Many international organizations have gone to Africa to help. For one of them, Samaritan´s Purse, works by the American physician Kent Brantly, who has infected himself in his commitment. The doctor now showed truly human greatness, as he has refused, according to his relief organization, intended for him serum, so it is a colleague available. At the same time, a 14-year-old boy from Liberia tried to save the doctor's life, which saved his own life.

Patient rejects drug in favor of his colleague
According to a report by the Swiss news agency SDA, Bradly had arrived in Atlanta on Saturday with a special plane. Afterwards, the isolation-chamber-equipped Gulfstream was supposed to get his colleague Nancy Writebol, a nurse, home. For the doctor, a serum had been flown in, which is still in the trial - and of which there was only one dose. However, according to his relief organization, the 33-year-old had turned down the money for Writebol to get it.

As stated in the message, Brantly received help from a young person whom he had helped. According to him, a 14-year-old boy from Liberia survived thanks to the help of the US doctor Ebola. With the hope of antibodies that could help his body fight the virus, Brantly now got blood sprayed from the child. The leader of the relief organization, Franklin Graham stated: „The boy and his family wanted to help save the doctor's life.“

Infected doctor „seems to recover“
The head of the US Department of Health „Centers for Disease Control and Prevention“ (CDC), Tom Peace, said, Brantly „seems to recover“. The doctor is cared for in the University Hospital Emory and thereby strictly sealed off. Peace communicated that he hoped that Brantly's condition would change „further improved“. Ebola is one „scary illness because it is so deadly“. According to information from her Christian aid organization Samaritan's Purse, US nurse Nancy Writebol, who is also infected, will be flown out to the United States in a few days and treated in Emory.

Many other helpers succumbed to the disease
Many other doctors and nurses also got infected while working in West Africa, most of them did not survive. For example, a few weeks ago a Ugandan doctor died in Liberia and one of the leading physicians at the John F. Kennedy Medical Center in Monrovia succumbed to the disease. For international attention caused the message: „Ebola top virologist from Sierra Leone is dead“. Accordingly, died in his home as „National hero“ titled doctor and top virologist Sheik Umar Khan to Ebola, after he had previously treated more than 100 infected and apparently infected himself. (Ad)
