Every fourth ice is contaminated with germs
Milk ice - every fourth sample contaminated with germs
(06.09.2010) Not every ice cream is edible, because every fourth ice sample was contaminated with germs, which at least revealed a test by consumer advocates from Cologne. In the test, portions of milk ice from different mobile and solid ice cream parlors were tested. Of the 44 milk ice samples taken in Cologne, Düsseldorf and Dortmund, one in four were contaminated with germs.
As it was said by consumer advocates circles, the ice would have been sold under any circumstances. Because the germs contained in the ice can cause diarrhea, nausea and vomiting in humans. Especially people with a weakened immune system would be affected.
But how do the germs get into the ice? The main problem is the scoops. Because actually they would have to be washed off under running cold water. But many ice cream parlors use a permanent dip where the scoopers are in front of each ball
Ice being dipped. Multi-use water with leftovers is an ideal cooker for bacteria and germs. As alarming as the results are with regard to the hygienic conditions in the ice cream parlors, however, a great health hazard does not emanate from the bacterial load in the ice. Salmonella or Listeria were not found after initial reports. (Sb)
