Is the milk healthy or harmful?
For a long time, milk was considered a healthy food. But then several studies have suggested that milk may also benefit certain diseases. Bavaria is now fighting with scientific support against the increasing number of milk opponents. Healthy natural product or hazardous to health?
(Image: rdnzl / fotolia.com (Milk has always been considered by most people to be a healthy natural product that, among other things, strengthens bones and teeth. In recent years, however, several studies have been published that suggest that milk may benefit from conditions such as asthma or diabetes. In addition, a lactose intolerance (lactose intolerance) is increasingly diagnosed in this country. Affected people get discomfort after eating dairy products, such as abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea or flatulence. Experts are therefore debating whether milk is now more likely to be considered as healthy or unhealthy food. In Bavaria, one is apparently safe in the evaluation.
Bavarian state government against milk opponents
The state government there is fighting with scientific support against the increasing number of milk opponents, reports the news agency dpa. A new metastatic study, commissioned by Agriculture Minister Helmut Brunner (CSU), concludes that milk is actually healthy and in no way harmful to health, as claimed in internet forums and in some studies. The minister said: "Milk is and will remain a healthy and valuable food and an important part of a balanced diet." Meta-studies analyze the results of previously published individual studies on a topic by the scientists.
Evaluated 400 milk studies
For the current study, the Competence Center Nutrition Bavaria and the Max Rubner Institute in Karlsruhe have reportedly evaluated nearly 400 milk studies. Their conclusion is: "Much of the allegation is devoid of any scientific basis." It is said that one of the common allegations against milk, among other things, is that milk increases the risk of bone fractures and the bone disease of osteoporosis. Other skeptics would argue that more milk consumption increases the risk of certain cancers. However, the scientists commissioned by Brunner come to the conclusion that in the majority of investigations health-promoting properties are observed. A well-known doctor from the Free State had recently referred to the positive aspects of milk in a press report. Prof. Reiner Bartl, head of the "Osteoporosis Center at the Cathedral" in Munich, explained that milk or mineral water with calcium can help prevent osteoporosis. (Ad)
