In Germany, people drink more than average alcohol
Be it a glass of wine to eat in France, a grappa after a meal in Italy or the after-work beer in Germany: Alcohol is part of everyday life for many people in Europe. However, when the consumption of "intellectual drinks" becomes a habit, health threatens. On the occasion of World Drug Day experts warn against the above-average alcohol consumption of the Germans.
High alcohol consumption damages your health
For many people, a social evening with friends or a pub visit without alcoholic drinks is almost unimaginable. The after-work beer is often a habit. But a high alcohol consumption harms the health. Persistently drinking too much, according to experts, can damage all organs of the body. Alcoholism increases the risk of numerous diseases such as high blood pressure, cardiac arrhythmia, heart failure, fatty liver, nerve damage or various cancers such as colon cancer. Although the World Health Organization (WHO) recently presented a study showing that young people in Europe and North America now drink and smoke less, the Germans statistically drink more than their average alcohol intake.
One liter above the European average
As reported by the Federal Center for Health Education (BZgA) on the occasion of World Drug Day on 26 June, the consumption of alcohol by the German population is still high by international standards. With 12.87 liters of pure alcohol, the annual per capita consumption of the German population aged 15 and over is thus one liter above the European average. According to the experts, in Germany alone 74,000 deaths a year are attributable to alcohol consumption or the combined consumption of tobacco and alcohol. The BZgA called for the responsible use of alcohol.
"Health is a good thing"
The Federal Government Drugs Commissioner, Marlene Mortler, said: "In Germany, far too many people drink more alcohol than they do well. Those who drink too much alcohol risk their health, their social contacts and, in the end, their economic existence! The fact that alcohol increases the risk of developing over 200 different diseases has been scientifically proven. "According to the politician, men are advised by doctors to drink no more than two small bottles of beer at most five days a week, and half of them in women Amount. "I can only appeal to everyone to take these recommendations for low-risk alcohol consumption seriously. Health is a great asset! "Says Mortler.
Alcohol especially dangerous for teenagers
Although there is a decline in alcohol and cigarette consumption among teenagers according to BZgA, but less alcohol is still too much, as scientific studies show. Dr. Heidrun Thaiss, head of the BZgA emphasized: "What many do not know: every sip of alcohol and especially the binge drinking are health risky for young people, since the process of maturation of the central nervous system is not yet finished for them. If you consume too much or regularly alcohol during this phase, you can cause lifelong harm. "(Ad)
