Measures to strengthen the immune system for men is not an issue

14/01/2013

Men do not take special care of their immune defense during the cold season, according to a recent survey by the market research institute GfK on behalf of the health magazine „pharmacy magazine“. At least just under a third of respondents in the winter worried about their own defenses.

Numerous measures that strengthen the immune system are available for the cold winter months. But men seem to have little interest in preventing colds and flu. In the current GfK survey, three-quarters of the men surveyed stated that they did not behave differently in the winter in terms of disease prevention than during other seasons. The increased risk of a cold or flu infection does not seem to worry most people. Even among women, only a minority was particularly concerned about their own health in winter, but they were more sensitized than men.

Three quarters of men without concern about increased cold and flu risk in winter
The defenses were put to the test in the wet and cold weather of the past few weeks. But „the cold season with the risk of colds, flu, cough, runny nose, the men in Germany is not particularly worrying“, reports the „pharmacy magazine“ in a recent press release. The representative survey conducted by the market research institute GfK revealed that 75.8 percent of the 936 men interviewed did not take any special measures in the winter to prevent or strengthen the body's defenses. Although women are a little less carefree, but also of the 982 women surveyed 69.9 percent care during the wet-cold season, not particularly to their defenses, s the message of the health magazine.

Many men do not do anything about the first symptoms
Even if the first cold symptoms, such as headache, cough, runny nose and fever already occur, 30 percent of men do not say anything first, but wait to see how the disease develops. Here, however, the women show a much higher concern. Only 16.1 percent of them remain careless when the first symptoms appear. Most, however, try first to get the symptoms with medication and home remedies for cough or runny nose under control or decide directly to a doctor's visit. The GfK market research institute commissioned the „pharmacy magazine“ a total of 1,918 people over the age of 14 years interviewed. (Fp)
