More and more people are getting cancer
The number of new cases of cancer in Germany has been estimated by the ZfKD to be around 476,000 in 2014, of which 249,200 for men and 227,000 for women. Women are still most often affected by breast cancer, men most commonly from prostate cancer.
Between 2004 and 2014, the number of new cases of cancer in men increased by 6% and in women by 9% due to the increase in the number of elderly people. Age-standardized diets show a 10% decline in the rates of ill health in men and an increase of 3% in women. According to the RKI, over-sightedness has steadily improved over the last few decades, with large differences between cancers.
Every year around 480,000 people in Germany become ill with cancer. With the data of epidemiological cancer registries, the incidence of cancer, d. H. describe how many cancers a year occur in a given population. The incidence is calculated according to the type of cancer, age and sex as well as other characteristics. Reliable incidence rates are an indispensable prerequisite for describing the extent and type of cancer burden on a population.
For several years, women in Germany under the age of 40 have had as many lung cancer diseases as men of the same age.
For the malignant melanoma of the skin (black skin cancer), regional differences can be observed within Europe and Germany.
Due to the demographic trend in Germany between 2010 and 2030, an increase in cancer incidence of at least 20% is expected.
