Always exhausted and tired warning signs at burn-out in time note / Health News
With constant exhaustion or little recovery after a free weekend or vacation, should think of a burn-out. Chronic fatigue and stomach discomfort are further signs of this.

Constant fatigue, inner restlessness, reduced performance, stomach upset, sleep disorders and difficulty concentrating - all these could be warning signs of burnout. That says Iris Hauth, President of the German Society for Psychiatry and Psychotherapy, Psychosomatics and Neurology (DGPPN). Affected people focus only on the work and leave friends and family outside, even that could be a clue. If one or more symptoms persist for more than two weeks, one should assume that this is not just a "bad phase".

Burn-Out: Work-life balance is important to prevent exhaustion syndrome.

Burnout not a disease but a risk condition
The company points out that burnout itself is not a disease. "Burnout is a risk state of physical and emotional fatigue," Hauth explains. "This can lead, for example, in depression, anxiety disorders and addictions". Above all, people with high self-claims, or those who strongly define the success or the profession, are at risk for the fatigue syndrome. Even if sufferers do not receive enough recognition for their work through their supervisor or partner, burnout can be favored. "Burn-out was first discovered in helping professions, but it runs through all occupational groups," explains the expert. Other factors also play a role. "If constant accessibility is expected or if the employee is exposed to increasing pressure of time and work, this can cause a burn-out".

In the early detection of burnout, the social environment can be helpful. So another clear warning sign is when the partnership or the family are suffering from the heavy workload and become the subject of disputes. However, those affected are usually no longer able to reflect their situation seriously and with consequences. All the more important is the sensitivity of the social environment. Above all, family, friends and acquaintances provide support in that they do not push the affected person but support them in small steps. Burnout is also difficult to bear for the social environment. Therefore, relatives should pay attention to themselves and take their own needs seriously.

Do something in good time
"If you notice the warnings, you should do something in good time," warns Hauth. The first step is the conversation with the doctor. This may be the family doctor, but also a specialist in psychiatry and psychotherapy, a psychotherapist or psychologist, but also the company doctor. A company doctor must also comply with the confidentiality and must therefore not tell the employer. Nevertheless, he can help to optimize the workplace.

Your own attitude is also an important factor: "You can set up a timetable, in which you deliberately scheduled breaks in the evening and on weekends". This could be a sofa session, trips with friends or family or even sports, where you can relax afterwards. Whether the timetable is met individually, can be good friends or family.

Therapy with too high self-claims
If all these measures do not help, a psychotherapeutic therapy can also be considered. "In the course of psychotherapy, one works on one's own attitude, high standards and self-esteem," explains Hauth. There are also cases that need to be hospitalized for a while. This is the case when patients feel very tired from depression or anxiety disorders. "You should then get a Teflon layer and learn to let even five be straight." In any case, there is help and the bad phase can be overcome. (Sb)
