Babies in their first year not in the direct sun
05/15/2012
Babies should not be exposed directly to the sun during their first year of life. Since infants do not yet have a fully trained natural sunscreen, they should as far as possible be exposed to direct sunlight, advises the initiative „Sunscreen? Sonnenklar!“ in a recent press release.
Since the UV rays of sunlight are much more dangerous for the infant's skin than for adults, special care should be taken here. Who thinks, with sunscreen let the problem avoid even the youngest, is deceptive. Here, according to the experts, only the avoidance of direct sunlight helps.
For babies under the age of 12 months, the initiative applies „Sunscreen? Sonnenklar!“ According to a general sunbathing ban and only in the second year of life, the little ones are allowed with sufficient sun protection every now and then in the sun. But even here the child sunscreen cream helps only limited, despite the high SPF. The midday sun between 11:00 am and 3:00 pm should therefore be avoided, even among two-year-old children. The UV radiation at this time is too dangerous for the children's skin, as this does not yet have a fully functional natural sunscreen and increases with each sunburn in childhood, the risk of skin cancer in the later years of life.
As the experts at the initiative report, children are generally required to take special precautions when it comes to sun protection, as adolescents often play outdoors for hours and are thus exposed to the sun for longer than adults. By the age of 18, according to the experts, people in this country have already absorbed 75 percent of the UV exposure they receive throughout their lives. (Fp)
