Ikea health hazard by children play tent
IKEA launches recall because of potential health risks
06/10/2011
The Scandinavian furniture store chain IKEA has due to the risk of injury a recall for the children's play tent „Busa“ started. IKEA „asks all customers who own a Busa Play Tent to immediately remove it from the children's access area“ and return it to an IKEA store for reimbursement of the purchase price, according to the company's latest release.
Reason for the recall is the steel wire linkage of the tent, which break in use and whose sharp wire ends can drill through the tent fabric. Cutting and stab wounds are possible consequences, warned the company. So far, the furniture store chain are three reports of corresponding damage to the children's tent before, in one case, a child had suffered minor injuries, told IKEA on Thursday morning in Hofheim.
According to the furniture store chain, the potentially harmful children's play tent has been available in all IKEA stores since August 01 this year. Since then, the company has received three complaints about broken steel wire rods. During the construction or when the children were playing with the tent, the poles were drilled through the tent fabric, IKEA reports. So far, fortunately, there have been no serious injuries and only in one case had I had a minor cut on a child. In order to rule out any health risks to the children, IKEA has responded promptly and a recall for the play tent „Busa“ started. Customers who have purchased the game tent are requested to stop the game immediately and return the tents to one of the IKEA stores. The purchase price will be refunded, of course, according to the message of the Swedish furniture store chain. Just over two weeks ago, IKEA launched a recall campaign for a special batch of mirror-glass sliding doors, in which the mirror can come off and fall off. Due to the high weight and risk of glass breakage, the company also saw in the product a potential threat to its customers. (Fp)
