Hydrotherapies Cold water to protect against infections
Man does not only use water for drinking and washing. The healing power of water was already known in ancient times. Later, the pastor Sebastian Kneipp developed his water therapy to strengthen the immune system. Their effectiveness has now been scientifically proven. Now there are new findings.
Water has been used for centuries for healing
The fact that water can also serve as healing water was already known in antiquity: centuries later, various forms of hydrotherapy were further developed. Also the bath doctor and pastor Sebastian Kneipp treated humans with the forces of the water.
A quotation attributed to him illustrates the great importance of the refreshing wetness: "If water is an excellent means for the healthy man to maintain his health and strength, it is also the first remedy in disease; it is the most natural, simplest, cheapest, and, if used correctly, the safest remedy. "
Kneipp's applications are mainly known by the so-called water treading. But also on the arms or on the face the water therapy works. (Image: britta60 / fotolia.com)Strengthen the immune system
Kneipp invented the water therapy, with which one can, among other things, strengthen the immune system. Scientists at the University of Jena have clearly demonstrated the effectiveness of therapy in studies. The cold castings according to Kneipp are therefore an intense stimulus for the body and thus strengthen the body's defenses. But Kneipp's applications are also recommended as home remedies for high blood pressure or against varicose veins.
Application of watering in the face
As reported by the Norddeutsche Rundfunk (NDR), Essen-based physicians from the Department of Naturopathy and Integrative Medicine have now applied water-borne water to Kneipp in two subjects in the face and examined their type A immunoglobulin (IgA status). These defenses occur in the saliva and also in the mucous membrane of the mouth, nose and throat. There it is their task to ward off invaders, such as the pathogens of cold, cough and influenza infections.
Abwehrkörper prevent the docking of viruses
The pathogenic viruses reach the body via the nose and throat and invade the mucous membrane. The mucous membrane contains the immune system IgA, which attach to the viruses and prevent docking to the mucous membrane. In addition, the defense bodies attract the body's own phagocytes, which destroy the viruses. However, this only works if enough defense cells are available.
Perfusion-enhancing effect
According to the report, participants in the study had to slowly irrigate the forehead and cheeks with a thick, cold stream of water - according to the old Kneipp rule three times in succession. When the IgA status of the volunteers was measured again after a week with Kneipp's facial gels in the morning and in the evening as well as an additional stimulation of tongue perfusion with a toothbrush, it was shown that the IgA values had increased in both participants.
According to the information, they had 25 percent more immunoglobulin than without a regular facial. The experts assume that the Kneipp castings are so effective through their circulation-enhancing effect. Thus, the blood vessels initially contract from the cold water and then expand greatly. As a result, much more blood flows through. The better the perfusion of the nose, throat and oral mucosa, the more IgA and phagocytes are formed there.
Cold casts need to be done regularly
The cold casts must be done regularly for them to work. At least three times a week. In addition to the facial glands, the classic Kneipp treatments can be carried out even in the own bathroom or in a Kneipp water tread system. The cold stimuli in the legs or forearms support the body's defenses. But you should not cool down, because that would weaken the organism again. Each application can take from three to a maximum of five minutes. (Ad)
